This is the basically the main purpose of kitchen cabinets. They are a built in closets that are installed in many kitchens to avoid any clutter silverwares and dishes. Also, they are used as storage for our food to make sure it is away from any unwanted objects like insects. Actually with the modern kitchen design, the kitchen appliances like the refrigerator, gas range, oven, smoke ventilation, oven toaster, microwave and others are incorporated with the kitchen cabinetry.

Kitchen cabinets are significant in making our kitchens tidy and organize. Most especially it gives more beauty to the kitchen place because of the various designs, styles and types that you can choose from. You might be confused on what type of kitchen cabinets you would want. You can start by checking on your budget.

How much will you be able to spend? Stock kitchen cabinet is the most affordable one in the market but because of its affordable price the designs of the items are limited this is because normally they are produced in mass thus, manufacturers can only come up with limited designs and functionality.  If you like to maximize in customizing your kitchen cabinets and base it on your desired design and style then the custom kitchen cabinets is the appropriate one for you.

Kitchen Pantry Cabinets

Kitchen pantry cabinets are another piece of furniture intended for the kitchen in addition to the traditional kitchen cabinets. It is a pantry at the same time an attractive decorative accent to the kitchen room. Even in our workplaces we will see these kitchen pantry cabinets. There are a lot of manufacturers who make great designs. These cabinets usually have deep shelves that are great for storing dishes and kitchen equipments but not so great for food. If you are going to place food in it you might have a hard time distinguishing which is which. The ideal kitchen pantry cabinets are those that have shallow shelves. If you have shallow and numerous shelves then you will have an easier time to look for what you needed because you will be able to see everything in your supplies and you have more storage area to use.

For those who prefer the deep panty cabinets you may install a small lighting system in the pantry cupboard so it will help you find things a little easier. Painting the shelves of your cabinet will also add up to the light so it would be easier for you to locate things and it will also accentuates the design of the kitchen.

Your kitchen pantry cabinets are one of the areas that frequently get overlooked when cleaning the house. However, as you know dishes and kitchen utensils that are use in making or cooking food are stored in it  and considering that they are also used as food storage, cleanliness of the cabinets should be given utmost importance to avoid sickness and any other diseases that my infest with dirty cabinets. It needs to be clean thoroughly in routine.

Custom Cabinetry – Your Cabinets Don’t Have To Cost the Earth.

Fixing up your own retirement property is really special and you want to be able to have the very best.  In reality, money is always a problem, so when we found an old farmhouse in the South of France to renovate, we knew that money would be tight and that we might not get everything we hoped for.

By building your own and taking the initiative to do it yourself you can save a huge amount of money.  This is our story…

We’ve got to the property and built our shed and workshops and now we are heading into the old stone building.  The kitchen for us, is the heart of our family.  We all love to cook and we love the emphasis that the French put on food, yet they just don’t know how to create a wonderful cooking environment.

French kitchens are sparse and not very well equipped, by most standards.  We plan to change that and building our cabinets was the first step.

After researching a variety of different diy cabinet plan downloads, we found the one that suited us the very best.  It had a wide selection and there were enough other great plans that we knew we would benefit from.  Having said that, the investment we made was worth the money just for the cabinet plans alone.

Our decision to keep our costs to a minimum by using reclaimed wood not only saved us money, but also helped us to feel as if the old farmhouse was getting some of her history back.  We really want to be as sympathetic to the property as possible without losing any of the home comforts we have back home.

Our family want to have a holiday and retirement property that we can rent for profit until it comes time for us to live there permanently.  We hope you’ll follow us through our year of renovations.

Building Cabinets – My Perfect Workshop

One of the biggest investments you can make if you are going to do a lot of diy is to get the best workshop.   I found a picture of my perfect workshop a few years back and every year I aspire to getting a workshop like this.

The Perfect Workshop

Having said that, I have found in my woodworking experience (not a massive amount) that organization and space are the two things you cannot do without.

With the woodworking projects that I’m busy with at the moment, I have found that my pantry cabinets being small have not been a problem and neither have the bathroom cabinets, but my garage will be larger than my shed and the woodworking bench that I built is just not large enough for the cabinet panels.  This has meant putting the garage cabinets on hold.

With so much going on, I’m not that worried and my wonderful wife keeps adding to the list of things she wants built, so leaving a plan for latter is not a problem at all.

My Little WorkshopHere is a picture of my own shed.  I am pretty organized, but my problem is space.  I think that I may be using the pool shed very soon as my new woodworking shed and will have to build another to cater for all the boxes that we have in storage over there.

Feel free to visit my Shed Building website to see the three shed’s I’ve built so far and to have a look at our property and how we are getting along.

If you’re interested in alternative power, you could also have a look at our Build a Generator site.  Please bear in mind that all the websites that we build will include commission on sales of products.  This is to help us afford the best for our farmhouse and we appreciate the support.

Diy Kitchen Cabinets

Lucy Looking Busy

Lucy Looking Busy

Our kitchen cabinets have taken a full week to build.  They look pretty simple, but the idea was for them to blend into the kitchen rather than stand out too much.

Our kitchen is typically French with pots hanging and a centre work station.  Storage is important, but not as much as with American kitchens.  Of course we had to paint the wood because the reclaimed wood we used was a little stained, but the overall look is just as we had hoped.

Building your own kitchen is not difficult, but one of the things that we learnt was that you need to consider the amount of light in the kitchen.  Our stone house doesn’t have many windows and as a result, the wood finish may not have been so good, creating a dark space in the kitchen.  We didn’t really get a feel for the wood in the workshop, but when we put it in the house, it all came together.

As simple as the plans were, we are really delighted with the outcome.  The look is what we wanted and we couldn’t be happier.  – Luci (Jared’s wife)

Cabinet Plans – Building Kitchen Cabinets

Hi My name is Jared,

I’m presently fixing up an old farmhouse in the South of France.  Any and all projects that I could complete myself, I will.  With money saving as my first priority and adventure as my second, I will attempt to build as much of our new retirement home myself.

The kitchen has to one of the first rooms to complete.  The whole family loves to cook and my loves to make chocolate, so our first project after the sheds and one bathroom has been the kitchen.

Now although the decision to build my own kitchen cabinets started as a financial one it has evolved to being a personal choice.  Although building your own cabinets may sound daunting, with the right set of plans, you can achieve bespoke cabinets that would normally cost you a small fortune.  I’ve set about finding a collection of plans and have now decided to build not just our kitchen cabinets, but bathroom and pantry and garage too.

Although a lot of the plans in the collection are not going to suit me, I have been really happy with the selection and have even altered a few of the plans to suit my situation without any problems at all.

The kitchen as it stands is open plan to the dinning room and so, the cabinets needed to look pretty good as they would be on show.  We have used reclaimed wood from one of the next village lumber yards and although some is slightly water damaged, we have sanded and treated each piece so that it is as good as new.

Painting the wood eliminated any discoloration and although I would have preferred to keep the wood finish, we can always upgrade in a few years time.  Right now while money is a priority, we need to keep the costs down.

I hope you’ll stick around and watch how we complete various projects at our farmhouse.  We have been building our sheds and workshops which you can view at Shedbuilding.org and have been resourcing various free energy devices at BuildaGenerator.net

If you want to support our project, we would like to mention that any links leading to sales made, will generate a commission for us to use on building a better home.
